If you’re planning on relocating to Fairfield, here’s a quick guide to some of the common architectural styles in the area:

Arts & Crafts

Emerging during the early 1900s, Arts & Crafts-style homes are characterized by steeply pitched roofs, asymmetrical main floors, and symmetrical belt courses where the edges of its bargeboards connect with the ends of the belt course.

These homes typically feature front-gabled roofs with dormers on each side and inset corner porches with bay windows.

Craftsman Bungalow

Craftsman or California Bungalow homes are usually 1 to 1 ½-storeys in height and are constructed out of natural building materials. Features include low to medium-pitched roofs with wide overhangs and exposed rafter tails, beams and knee brackets, and expansive front porches.

Colonial Bungalow

Common features of Colonial Bungalows include hip roofs (which are often bellcast), wide projecting eaves with flat brackets, wide inset verandahs, and classical-style columns that feature simplified capitals.

Foursquare

Foursquare-style properties are 2-story homes with hip roofs, at least one dormer, and wide eaves. These properties typically have four rooms on each level. The architectural style’s most prominent feature is its full-width front porch featuring a solid balustrade and multiple windows.
