Aries

March 21 - April 20

Type of Person
Those born under the sign of Aries are independent, adventurous, always in a hurry and constantly at the forefront of new developments. Although they are the pioneers of the zodiac, Arians often take satisfaction in uncomplicated situations. They are energetic, extremely hard working and fond of the outdoor life.

A typical Aries does not mind if his or her house is slightly rundown, as that gives them the perfect opportunity to get to work on doing it up. In fact, they prefer a house that is practically an empty shell, as it can then be torn down and built up, stone by stone, into their ideal home. Arians are not particularly fond of living in towns and would rather live far from the madding crowd. They have a need to be surrounded by rugged nature, but, should they be forced to live in an urban environment, then they often opt for a renovated factory or warehouse.

Interior
Interior design does not typically interest an Aries, whose only concern is with the bare essentials. They like functional furniture without too much frippery and often tend to choose large heavy chests or sturdy armchairs. Their taste may seem somewhat primitive but there is something unpretentious about it and they often like to bring nature indoors in the form of large stones or branches. Arians seek a simplistic lifestyle and enjoy living and working in the same room.

Taurus

April 21 - May 21

Type of Person
The Taurus is a hedonist, a sensualist and frequently an art lover. Although they love money, a Taurus will spend without stinting. They do everything at their own pace in order to enjoy it to the full. Tureens are also tenacious, which sometimes makes them rather conventional in their tastes. Gemini

Gemini's are very sociable and like talking. One of Gemini's most endearing qualities is that they are amazed at everything: almost childlike, as if they were experiencing it for the first time. For them variety is the spice of life and they never fail to demonstrate their Gemini an versatility.

Gemini's do not seem bothered about how their home looks and adapt easily to almost any style. As they crave variety, they may move house often, frequently landing up in many different types of abode. There are two characteristics that Gemini's value most in a house and these are light and air. Large windows with a panoramic view suit a Gemini perfectly, but the windows must be able to be opened, and the wider the better. A Gemini likes a large house with lots of small rooms.

Ideal Location
Gemini's like to live somewhere that is easily accessible; not far from a motorway, for instance, and in a place where there are a lot of people. They prefer to live in a busy environment, as close as possible to all sorts of activities in which they can become involved. A Gemini will never object to living in a flat, as they are not keen gardeners.

Interior
The interior of a Gemini's house is usually a hotchpotch of styles that reflect their patchwork taste, cheerfully combining modern design furniture with old-fashioned solid oak. But what typifies a Gemini is an abundance of color and unusual ornaments, inspired by their curiosity. Gemini's also like a lot of chairs to receive their many visitors.

Cancer

June 22 - July 23

Type of Person
Cancer is the most homely of the zodiac and home is where Concertinas feel most secure. People of habit and well-tried formulas, Concertinas are sharp minded and usually display great loyalty. They revere the past and are unsure about the future, as it is difficult to predict. They love to take care of other people but often neglect themselves.

Type of House
Given the nature of the sign of Cancer, it is not surprising that they usually choose a ready-built house rather than having one specially designed. Conventional houses, constructed according to traditional standards, make Concertinas feel safe and secure. Their ideal is a house built in the 1900s with oriole windows and lots of nooks and crannies. Concertinas sometimes choose rooms where little light penetrates so they can hide away completely, withdrawing like the crab into its shell. The kitchen is always the hub of the Chaucerian house.

Ideal Location
Concertinas are not very demanding when it comes to location, as the inside of a house is more important than where it is. But it has to be somewhat secluded, preferably in a picturesque setting, and if there happens to be a river or a lake nearby then that would make it even more perfect.

Interior
Concertinas find the inside of their house of the utmost importance, but that does not necessarily mean they have impeccable taste. Concertinas like to surround themselves with meaningful objects and their home is their castle, the place where the past comes into its own.  Many Concertinas use furniture that they have inherited and these antiques suit them well, although they would not choose this type of furniture given a free choice. Concertinas make room in their house for objects to which they have an emotional attachment.

Leo

July 24 - August 23

Type of Person
Leos are regal types who love making grand and lavish gestures. They always want to be in\charge, are good organizers and like to receive plenty of compliments. But they are generous with their compliments too.\A Leo makes an excellent coach or instructor who can easily see what will suit someone else. Leos are either overly affectionate or somewhat tyrannical.

Type of House
Given the choice, a Leo would prefer to live in a large palace, but a smaller palace will do if it has enough style and charm. They love long driveways enclosed by high fences, with two couchant lions to complete the picture, and a grand flight of steps leading up the front door. But if the palace is not on, nor the couchant lions, then a Leo will purr contentedly with a smart town house or a fashionably-designed new one.

Ideal Location
Leos are very choosy about where they live. With their constant desire to be the centre of attention. Leos naturally want their houses to be admired by everyone too. This is why so many Leos live in beautiful old houses in city centers. But if they crave space round their house, then a Leo will be perfectly happy on an up-market housing development.

A house has to be generously designed and decorated to please a Leo, with large mirrors in gilded frames to greet you as you enter. Virgo

Virgos are modesty itself and often play an important role behind the scenes organizing and checking every detail, as they are precise, systematic and highly perceptive. They are born to serve and can be extremely critical, of themselves as well as of others. A Virgo's greatest quality is the power of discernment.

Simplicity can best describe a Virgo, and this applies to their house as well. They do not consider their home should conform to the latest trends in architecture but rather that it should be good quality. The insulation has to be efficient as the Virgo is careful with resources, and for furnishings they prefer to choose natural materials that do not harm the environment.

Ideal Location
Virgos do not like to stick out from the crowd, which means that they can fit into any environment. Most Virgos like to live in a run of the mill house with good access to shops and public amenities. As they are such clean and tidy people, they usually avoid the older parts of town and dislike it if their own area gets dilapidated. For this reason, Virgos often choose new modern developments.

Interior
The Virgo likes everything to be well organized and they can teach you a thing or two about the art of omission. They do not like unnecessary objects and detest fripperies. Closed cupboard doors give a Virgo the feeling of a tidy house where they are no superfluous distractions. Virgos choose plain unadorned fabrics for their furnishings, will use transparent lacquer on a pine chest and beeswax rather than paint a wooden floor.

Libra

September 24 - October 23

Those born under the sign of Libra like to choose the happy medium, although making a choice is hard for them because of their interminable hesitancy. In actual fact they would rather not have to make a choice at all. Librans often have perfect taste and can combine colors like no one else.  They frequently play the role of arbitrator but they can be so considerate to others that they often neglect to think of themselves.

Librans like many different styles but first and foremost their house has to comply with their very definite aesthetic requirements. They shy away from anything in any way weird or houses that have lots of odd protrusions or recesses. A Libran house must look harmonious and if the woodwork is painted then it must never be too conspicuous. Best of all, Librans like to tastefully combine different shades of one color.

Ideal Location
Librans are very sociable and so like to live in a place where there are a lot of people: however, being one of the "air" signs of the zodiac they also like to be able to see open spaces, giving them a constant reminder of freedom. For this reason, they particularly favor living in high rise flats or penthouses with a panoramic view.  Some gregarious Librans go so far as to live in social groups or communes.

Interior
A Libran will not choose an unconventional interior, as this would be too conspicuous, but they do try to have one theme constantly appearing throughout the house. This could be accomplished by using two or three color combinations or by having a certain style of furniture that subtly links each room together. Like Gemini's, Librans love light, sometimes emphasized by the use of mirrors and lucid colors.

Scorpio

October 24 - November 22

Type of Person
A Scorpio is someone of whom is can be said that still waters run deep. They prefer not to be too conspicuous and will often lurk in the background, but they are excellent observers and can see through everything and everybody. Scorpios do not reveal themselves easily but can often uncover things in others. There is something mysterious about a Scorpio and the can occasionally be fanatical.

Just as the scorpion has a hidden side, so must a Scorpio house have a large cellar or basement where they can crawl away under the ground if they feel they are being watched. For this reason a house built on a slope is attractive to Scorpios. They prefer to live in older houses, not only because of the atmosphere, but also because of the increased likelihood of hidden nooks and crannies. A slightly dilapidated house has a magical attraction for the Scorpio.

Ideal Location
A Scorpio's house must be somewhere unconventional, often in the back of beyond, and if it is difficult to reach then this is even better. Somewhere slightly sinister, perhaps near a churchyard, suits a Scorpio with his close affinity to life and death. Sex is another Scorpio subject, and a house near a district haunted by prostitutes might suit many Scorpios, although they never work in this profession.

It may seem strange but Scorpios usually avoid the light. They like a room to be dark with somber furniture and furnishings, deep red and black being their favorite colors. They like to find unusual pieces of furniture that have a story behind them. Their taste is somewhat traditional but never pompous. Scorpios like chests with secret drawers and subdued lighting. Sagittarius

Sagittarius is one of the most genial signs of the zodiac. They are optimistic and positive, which means they can give enormous stimulation to others, and they love to invent new challenges. They love spaciousness and perspective and without these two they feel they are 'dying', which explains their great desire for freedom.  Sagittarians are very good at sports, due to their high stamina and love of nature.

Sagittarians think it important that their homes are spacious or at least give a feeling of space and if they can walk right around their house then all the better. They sometimes live in new developments although the sort of palatial dwellings favored by a Leo also appeal to them strongly.

Ideal Location
Sagittarius is the sign of overview or bird's eye view and for this reason a Sagittarius will not shy away from living on the top floor where they can see everything that is going on. If they live in a house with several floors then they like to be on the highest. They favor houses in natural surroundings, preferably on a hill.

Interior
Sagittarians give preference to large-scale objects in their interior. They would rather have one big vase than three small ones and one mega-lamp to light the room rather than lots of spotlights. They love big windows, as well as skylights and fanlights, giving them a good view and as much light as possible. If their house does not have these things already, the Sagittarian will have them installed. They also love exotic and ethnic objects that they have collected on their travels round the world.

Capricorn

The Capricorn is a serious type that takes responsibilities onto his or her shoulders that others would try to avoid. They are somewhat closed characters but when you know them better you value their solid qualities and find their down to earth nature and common sense refreshing. These dependable characters can often carry y whole organizations. They may be extremely businesslike by nature but are also closely involved with society in general.

Capricorns are not people to be attracted to houses with experimental features. They like an efficient, almost chilly atmosphere, which makes them choose long-lasting materials and technology. It also explains their preference for traditional building methods. Angular architecture attracts them the most and symmetry is also popular with Capricorns. They are sensitive to tradition and often live in older houses, although these will not always exude an efficient atmosphere.

Ideal Location
Location is slightly more varied with Capricorns, as they can have two distinctly different perspectives. The first is a desire to be as close to business life as possible. This can result in the Capricorn choosing to live in or near to their work, but if not possible then any urban area will do, providing it is the center of a down. The second is a wish to keep work and pleasure apart. These, perhaps less ambitious, Capricorns want to be able to retreat into their homes and so tend to choose a house somewhat remote from the rest of society.

Given that the character of the Capricorn is rather cool and efficient, you can expect a rather chilly interior to their houses. Do not be surprised if they place their desk in the center of the living room so they can keep on working in what little spare time they have. Capricorn is a great lover of wood, preferably in dark shades and they also like stone floors and a lot of marble in the bathroom and kitchen. They do not however like to many decorative objects on the wall. Quality and sobriety is the key to their character.

Aquarius

Aquarius is unconventional and those born under this sign seldom listen to advice.  They do exactly as they please. They are, however, very y original and inventive and do not like to live as other people.  They are interested in both the very oldest and the most modern houses.

For an Aquarius it is as difficult to look for a suitable home as it is to find a needle in a haystack. Most houses are simply too ordinary. The Aquarian who is interested in the past chooses a really old house that is permeated with history.  Restoration and maintaining the original features of a house is then the Aquarian's main aim. More daring Aquarians choose distinctly modern architecturally designed houses with the most futuristic gadgets.

This is a task that needs precision, as Aquarians prefer somewhere near the rest of the world but in a remarkable place. For this reason Aquarians often live in houses like old warehouses or industrial monuments that, after thorough rebuilding, look completely different and are quite habitable.

An Aquarian's dichotomy can be seen here too. Either they choose very old furniture in a suitable color or they select an unusual modern interior with wall-to-wall high tech gadgetry.  They usually go for unusual, high quality materials.  Some Aquarians have the knack of combining traditional and modern furniture. Pisces

Those born to the sign of Pisces are sensitive souls that attract the woes of others. This is why they often have to withdraw so they can let everything roll off them. Pisceans are the idealists of the zodiac, but this can mean that they suffer from lack of reality and often retreat into a world of fantasy. They are very inspiring and have an unlimited imagination.

Pisceans tend to fall for old houses with a history because of their sensitivity. They do not pay attention to the material side of life and so they often have to be careful that their house does not fall into disrepair. But this would not worry them unduly. Pisceans like secluded spots where they can retreat. As they are so sensitive they like to be near water for its peace and relaxing qualities.  An island would be ideal, or an old castle or convent with a large moat around it.  By the sea or in a harbor is another ideal spot for Pisces.
