Whether you want to play baseball or go on leisurely walks along scenic trails, there’s no end of fun things to do in the outdoors in Ridgefield.
Parks
Numerous parks dot the town’s lush landscape, each with their own unique features and attractions.
- Aldritch Park features picturesque woodland trails that lead to ledge outcroppings or wetlands.
- Historic Ballard Park offers a lovely gazebo, formal gardens, and a greenhouse maintained by the Ridgefield Garden Club.
- Serfilippi & Fitzgerald Fields is a hidden gem with camping grounds and a good number of hiking and biking trails that overlook the small fishing lake named Lake Windwing.
- Richardson Park is just across Ridgefield High School, and has picnic areas surrounded by lovely trees and meadow walking trails that’s also near Mamanasco Lake.
- Finally, Sturges Park provides secluded campsites and hiking trails near the Connecticut-New York border.
Your beloved animal companions will enjoy Bark Park Dog Park.
Covering an acre and a half, this recently renovated dog park off Prospect Ridge features a fully fenced-in dog playing area and separate areas for small dogs and large dogs. There are also dog drinking stations, poop cleanup stations, and an area with yard hydrants for washing off dogs that get dirty while having fun in the park.
Outdoor sports
There’s nothing that gets the blood pumping better than playing in the outdoors, whether it’s surrounded by wide open space or shaded by groves of trees.
Ridgefield has its share of various outdoor sports fields for your enjoyment. These include:
- Ciuccoli Field & Governor Park, with one baseball diamond and one lighted softball diamond, along with a basketball court and three tennis courts.
- Just adjacent to it is the Graham Dickinson SPIRIT Skate Park, which is the perfect venue for skateboarders and inline skaters to do their jumps, spins, and rail-riding stunts on the park’s smooth asphalt surface and its variety of ramps, partial pipes, planters, and more.
- Additional baseball diamonds can also be found in Aldritch Park, Sachem Hill Field, Serfilippi& Fitzgerald Fields, and Shadow Lake Field.
- Tennis players have options to use the Justine H. Butler Tennis Courts behind Yanity Gym or the six courts at Ridgefield High School when these are not being used by the teams or students.
- And golf enthusiasts will enjoy teeing off at the Ridgefield Golf Club, where they can face 18 challenging holes designed by George and Tom Fazio.
Beaches
Beach areas in Ridgefield are small sandy areas that are found near the many lakes in the town. Check out Martin Beach Park that’s adjacent to Great Pond, a natural spring-fed lake located off Great Pond Road just past the Ethan Allen Highway. The beach is manned by lifeguards during operating hours, and features amenities such as water slides, picnic pavilions, volleyball court, playground, and a dock for paddleboating and kayaking.
