Seller’s guide: 4 Ways to make your listing clutter-free

open-houseNothing is as appealing as clutter-free listings. Decluttered listings not only look clean, but depersonalized and ready for the perusal of buyers. Unfortunately, not a lot of sellers take time to de-clutter their homes for the sale. We are about to change that by sharing four simple tricks to make your listing clean and clutter-free.

1. Stick to the basics.

There was a time when homebuyers viewed clutter as charming objects that portray a home’s personality. That time, however, is long over. Clutter, for most homebuyers, means mess and a state of disrepair.

When you’re staging your listing, stick to the basics that show off the architectural features of your home. For example: don’t block lovely views with over-the-top window treatments. Don’t clog up the space with oversized furniture. A few decorative elements here and there will suffice, but let the house do the talking.

2. Organize your clutter.

Off-site storage sure is convenient, but it can be quite expensive. Instead of stashing your stuff somewhere far away or in a dark storage room, sort these items into categories: give, donate, haul, and sell. This way, your items won’t rot in a sad basement somewhere and will be put to good use by other people.

3. Essential furnishings and décor will highlight a room’s use.

In relation to our first advice, sticking to essentials used for daily living will help show off your listing. For kitchens, use a toaster and a coffeemaker as decoration. Living spaces like dining rooms should have slimmed-down contents. For bedrooms, stick to serene colors, and maybe a vase, a book, or a lamp on the bedside table.

4. Imagine the listing through a buyer’s eyes.

Having lived in the home for a period of your life, it’s time to see your listing through a different lens. Walk through the home for a final inspection before show time to decide if adjustments need to be made.
